support Cookies for Kids' Cancer

Every year we write to tell you about Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, our connection to the organization and to the boy, Liam Witt, that started it all. Our sweet friend Liam battled cancer for 4 years. He was only 6 ½ years old when we lost him. He would have celebrated his 10th birthday this month. It’s not fair to lose someone so young, yet in his short life, he left an indelible impact on countless people, including us and our kids.

His parents, our friends Gretchen and Larry, started Cookies for Kids Cancer as a way to help other children in their fight, and to help find a cure. Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease of children in the US, yet pediatric cancer receives less than 4% of the National Cancer Institute's budget. That means every single dollar you donate – any amount - makes a huge difference.

Cookies has grown from a mom’s ambitious idea to have a huge bake sale, to a laser focused, deeply impactful, pediatric cancer research organization. Our families have been involved with Cookies for Kids’ Cancer for 5 years. It is not just us, but our children. This is a cause that Sam, Ari, Maddie and Sydney understand and work hard to do their part to support. The four of them were in preschool with Liam, and their memories of playing with him are as clear as yesterday. They have a true connection and enthusiasm for raising money and awareness. (Dov & Jack have a true enthusiasm for the cookies.)

On May 13th, Liam’s birthday, we held a bake sale at apple seeds. Our kids baked, wrapped and sold as many goodies as they could after school that day. They raised over $1,000. It was amazing.

Our wider plea for support this year is around a 5k race that we, along with Maddie, Sydney, Ari and Sam, will run in Liam’s honor.

It is this Saturday, May 24, at 8:00am.

If you would like to support this cause, you can make a donation in the next few days on their webpage:

If you would like to just send us some good energy to have a great race, please do (4 nine year olds – 3 miles…) – it is appreciated!

Thanks so much as always.
