Mexican Bark Paper Giclee Animal Prints by Gert Mathiesen/Pamela Smilow:
New York artist Pam Smilow and Danish artist Gert Mathiesen have been married and collaborating on paintings, prints, and ceramics for over twenty years. In addition to their large-scale paintings, they love to work on these small, vibrant animal pieces on a Mexican bark paper. Both artists bring their individual styles to the work. Gert, in his painterly way, sketches the outline of the animal in black and white. Pam then begins the collage process, adding bits and pieces of their own linoleum prints as well as pieces of fabric, paper, found objects, etc. The paper then gets passed back and forth until the artists are satisfied that the animal has sufficient personality. The combination of the two very different, but equally graphic styles make for a truly unique and whimsical piece of art. They are subsequently reproduced on a high quality archival paper into giclee prints, making them extremely affordable. The framed prints can be hung in a group or on their own, and also sit nicely on a shelf. They are a perfect solution when looking for a unique gift for a birthday, graduation, wedding or special occasion.
The pieces can be purchased at the apple seeds boutique for $50 – check them out today!
